Is the GSG-5 worth buying?

So recently I had the opportunity to fire a full automatic HK MP5 chambered in 9mm x 19. There aren't really a ton of words to describe how fantastic of an experience it was. Now I feel like I have to have one. Unfortunately they are ridiculously expensive, as they should be, obviously. As an alternative I have come across the GSG (German Sport Guns) 5, which is effectively an identical copy of the HK MP5, but without the selective fire capability (only shoots semi-automatic) and is chambered in 22 LR as opposed to 9mm. I mean it looks like a well-built alternative, and I have read plenty of good reviews for the GSG, but I just don't know if it is really worth buying. I'm not looking to defend my home with this firearm it will just be something fun to take with me to the range. I'm just looking for some advice from someone who has held the GSG, or better yet fired one. Help!
