Is there any relation between Hz and FPS?

I'm getting an LCD HDTV for gaming. I want the TV to be able to achieve at least 60 FPS. I don't know if all TVs are the same when it comes to FPS or not. I do notice that most HDTVs are either 60Hz or 120Hz. Does this affect FPS at all? What's the difference?
